OFFHOOK ALARM
Enables/disables the alarm that alerts you if the handset of the telephone connected to the machine is not hung up properly.
VOLUME CONTROL
Sets the RX RING VOLUME and LINE MONITOR VOL. RX RING VOLUME: LINE MONITOR VOL. : When the machine is set to ring, selects the ring volume. Selects the line monitor volume while dialing.
RX RING LEVEL
Selects the ring type for incoming call.
TEL LINE TYPE
Selects the telephone line type setting for your machine.
Note
In New Zealand, select <TOUCH TONE>. You cannot use <ROTARY PULSE>.
ACTIVITY REPORT
Sets whether to print the ACTIVITY REPORT automatically after every 20 transactions.

Enables/disables Error Correction Mode (ECM) sending.
PAUSE TIME
Selects the pause length when you press [Redial/Pause].
AUTO REDIAL
Enables/disables automatic redialing. REDIAL TIMES: REDIAL INTERVAL: If you select <ON> as <AUTO REDIAL>, enables setting the number of redialings. If you select <ON> as <AUTO REDIAL>, enables setting the length of time between redialings.
TX START SPEED
Selects the speed at which the machine starts transmitting.
COLOR TX
When faxing in color from the ADF, enables/disables automatic converting the image into black and white before sending if the destination fax device does not support color.
TX REPORT
Enables/disables automatic printing of a transmission report after sending. ATTACH TX IMAGE: If you select <PRINT ERROR ONLY> or <PRNT FOR EACH TX> as <TX REPORT>, enables/disables printing the first page of the fax under the report (black & white faxes only).
DIAL TONE DETECT
If you selects <ON>, the machine transmits after confirming the dial tone. This function may not be supported depending on your country or area.
RX SETTINGS
ECM RX
Enables/disables Error Correction Mode (ECM) during reception.
FAX/TEL AUTO SW
If you select <FAX/TEL AUTO SW> as the receive mode, customizes its settings. RING START TIME: TEL RING TIME: DEFAULT ACTION: Selects the time the machine takes to check whether a call is a fax or voice call. Selects whether the machine switches to receive mode after the ring time has elapsed, or whether it disconnects the call.
DRPD:FAX RNG PAT
If you select <DRPD> as the receive mode, select the ring pattern for the machine. This setting is only available in US and Canada.
INCOMING RING
If you select <FAX/TEL AUTO SW>, <DRPD> or <FAX ONLY MODE> as the receive mode, enables/disables ringing for fax calls (A telephone must be connected to your machine for ringing to occur). RING COUNT: If you select <ON> as <INCOMING RING>, selects the number of rings for fax calls.

MAN/AUTO SWITCH
If you select <MANUAL MODE> or <ANS. MACHINE MODE> as the receive mode, enables/disables the machine to switch to fax receive mode after ringing for a specified length of time. RX START TIME: Selects the length of time the machine rings before switching to fax receive mode.
REMOTE RX
Enables/disables remote receiving. If you select <ON>, selects the remote receiving ID.
RX IMG REDUCTION
Enables/disables automatic reduction of faxes to fit the paper loaded. DIRECTION: If you select <ON> as <RX IMG REDUCTION>, enables selecting the direction of the reduction.
RX START SPEED
Selects the speed at which the machine starts receiving.
RX REPORT
Enables/disables automatic printing of a reception report after receiving. If you select <PRINT ERROR ONLY> or <PRINT FOR EACH RX>, prints a reception report only when a print error occurred or every time you receive a fax.
OTHERS
AUDIBLE TONES
Selects the volume.
KEYPAD VOLUME
Selects the beep volume when pressing the buttons on the Operation Panel.
ALARM VOLUME
Selects the alarm volume.
PWR SAVE SETTING
Specifies the time to switch the machine to the Power Saver mode.
COUNTRY SELECT
Selects the country where you are using your machine. This setting is not available in some countries and regions.
LANGUAGE SETTING
Selects the language for LCD messages.
RESTORE DEFAULT
You can change the settings back to the settings on your purchase (some data may not be reset depending on your usage condition).

Routine Maintenance
Replacing an Ink Tank
When ink runs out, replace the ink tank. The machine will not print if the wrong type of ink tank is used, or if it is installed in the incorrect position. Black: CLI-8BK Magenta: CLI-8M
Black: PGI-5BK
Cyan: CLI-8C
Yellow: CLI-8Y
Note
Be sure to install the ink tanks in the correct order. The proper arrangement from the left is Black , Black , Yellow , Magenta , Cyan . Should missing characters or white streaks appear despite sufficient ink levels, see "When Printing Becomes Faint or Colors are Incorrect" on page 103.
Getting the Ink Level Information
You can check the ink tank status by the ink lamp display. [. . . ] Above all, it provides no assurance that any item will work correctly in all respects with another item of Telepermitted equipment of a different make or model, nor does it imply that any product is compatible with all of Telecom's network services. Telepermitted equipment only may be connected to the auxiliary telephone port. The auxiliary telephone port is not specifically designed for 3-wire-connected equipment. 3-wire-connected equipment might not respond to incoming ringing when attached to this port. [. . . ]
