NOTE Determining the COM port Your modem is connected to one of the computer's COM (communications) ports. The following procedure is intended to support you if you need to either upgrade your modem or reset the port to the default settings. If you are having trouble connecting through the modem, you may need to determine the current COM port name and possibly change it. To find out which port your modem is connected to in the operating system: 1 Click Start, click Control Panel, then Printers and Other Hardware. Using the Ethernet LAN Port If your operating system is Windows® XP Tablet PC Edition, you can connect your computer to a Local Area Network (LAN) at work or from a remote location. When your computer starts, the Windows® operating system attempts to contact a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server. If the computer is not connected to a network, it may pause a few minutes as it waits for a reply. To avoid this delay, you can configure the Windows® operating system to disable the LAN port.
